| How we filtered it | Took every organization in the GOV.UK Organisations API (1,271, all pages, retrieved 2026-11-02). Kept those not closed, not devolved and not NHS. Devolved means the three devolved governments, every body whose GOV.UK parent links all lead to them, and six parentless Welsh bodies named in the script; jointly sponsored bodies such as APHA stay. NHS means 'NHS' in the name or a special health authority. Read each kept organization's GOV.UK Content API item for organisation_govuk_status.url and took it as the body's own site; an address that is a page on another body's host (21, e.g. bbc.co.uk/worldservice, parliament.uk/...) was not taken. Added .gov.uk domains still in the 31 March 2026 register when the 30 March 2023 or 28 October 2019 edition names exactly a population organization or its abbreviation as the registrant. A domain the organization only owns (registered for something else) was taken only if Tranco ranks it, which dropped 77. One row per host; other organizations on that host are listed under also_runs. Ranked by Tranco 8PXYV (30 days to 2026-10-10) on the host or the host without www, never a parent domain's rank. How much of each site we read
The cap is 32 URLs and it is a ceiling, not a promise. A portal whose every link points at a different host yields one page; a university yields the full sample. The median here is 1, the range 1–32, published so that "we sampled 32 URLs per site" cannot become a claim the data does not support.
